Site updates for 11 April 2010

We’ve recently launched this site as a new business and have big plans for the future. Read to find out about how we plan to develop the site, and what we are doing now.

Any new website is a risk.  Will people come and visit?  Will the site be what they are looking for? Will it be a worthwhile business?

Adorable Pearls

We are in the process of building the site and that is happening on two fronts.

Firstly we have got our favourite graphic designer working on a new logo and website header, and our colours are probably changing too.  Look for something that is cute and light-hearted and for a strong and stylish logo. At the moment, we’ve got a temporary header so that we could get the site going and we will replace this with a new header which will look a lot better.

Secondly, we’ve got a top writing working on some great new articles. We believe that content is key to any great website.  We want to be the one stop shop for well researched and useful information on pearls. We want articles that people will read – and stay for.  We chose a talented writer who does a lot more than simply write filler – he is a researcher too.  Articles don’t happen immediately, so please be patient and soon we’ll see some great new articles.

Long term, we’ll have articles covering the whole world of pearls. We are passionate about the subject and we think that pearls are the most beautiful thing that a woman can wear – they are affordable, elegant and add instant sophistication and class.

Have you seen the photos that we are including in our articles (like the one above)? They are stock photos that we have special chosen and bought. We are trying to make each page look as good as possible.

Our goals for the next week are to add a few articles to the site. We are in the process of promoting the site to increase the number of visitors. At present, this is mainly through Twitter and blog sites but in time we hope to have more visitors through Google, and also through links from our articles. To date, the response has been more than expected. The other good thing is that people are coming back. The bad thing is that not many visitors are from our native Australia.

Our long-term vision is to sell fine pearls at an affordable price, but this is a long way off yet. We first need to have the articles that people need for them to learn about pearls, then we can start selling pearls under our own brand.  The Internet really opens up opportunities to bypass high margin shop fronts and connect directly to purchasers, offering them value for money and quality. Being in Australia, South Sea pearls are a local product that we can sell.

We’ll keep taking baby steps and get this business going first.
